Slowing Down with Saint Paloma : Iman Knox
The first time I saw Iman, she was at a local streetwear shop, and her presence immediately stood out. She wore a knit beanie, perfectly worn in denim, and bold black frames—an effortless combination that made me think, she’s the definition of cool. She was kind, gracious, and her knitwear pieces were as impressive as her style.
If you’re not following her on TikTok, you should be. She layers with intention, finds the most incredible thrifted and vintage pieces, and has a way of dressing that feels entirely her own. That sense of individuality is always what draws me in.
This year I’ve focused these interviews on local creatives. People in Oklahoma who are pushing the culture forward and inspiring me along the way. Iman is all of that, and I’mgrateful she took the time to let us step into her world.

your style is undeniably your own...do you have a process for
putting a look together?
My process for putting a look together really starts with how I'm feeling, regardless of what's on my agenda for the day. Most cases, I want to be as comfortable as possible whether I'm headed to work, dinner, an event, comfort is typically at the forefront of selecting an outfit.

where did your love for fashion begin?
My love for fashion honestly started as a child. As soon as my mom started letting me dress myself, it was OVER! I loved playing dress up, deconstructing clothes and turning them into new pieces, and ultimately having the freedom to express myself through textiles. I started taking fashion more seriously the older I got and realized how natural it came to use clothing as language.

if you could raid anyones closet, dead or living..who would it be?
I would 100% raid either Amanda Murray's closet or Alani Figueroa (aka @wuz00d on ig) with ease! Amanda and Alani both experiment with shape/silhouette, color and texture in a way that scratches the crevices of my fashion brain so so well.

how would you describe your personal style in 3 words?
Layered, original, and eclectic.

what are you reading/listening to/watching?
I’ve been aiming to prioritize more physical media consumption and lately I’ve been drawn to a lot of vintage print media like i-D, vogue, and jet magazines for inspiration. On the flip side, I thoroughly enjoy dystopian subject matter and just started reading a book called “The Dream Hotel” by Laila Lalami. It’s about a woman who’s detained for a future crime predicted by an algorithm that analyzes her dreams — I’m still at the very beginning of the story so we shall see if it gets a lil spooky.

youre also a creative..a designer - how did House of Northbrook come about and what has been the biggest moment for you while building the brand?
House of Northbrook was inspired by my childhood home in Detroit, MI which is located on a street called Northbrook Drive. My first spark and passion for creative realms were born under that roof and I wanted my brand to pay homage to where I come from. But, I am actually in the middle of a rebrand and House of Northbrook will soon be self-titled, in other words, "Iman Knox". I have been transitioning and undergoing many growing pains not only as a designer but as a human. Some of the brand models didn't resonate anymore and I've been embracing the discomfort that comes with change. With that said, I am super excited about what's to come the more I lean into this next chapter so stay tuned for the rebrand!
