Slowing Down with Saint Paloma : Alex Jayne
Alex Jayne : film photographer & vintage seller
Who are you? Where are you from?
I’m Alex Jayne from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho by way of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Fav song or album on repeat?
I work part time for a friend’s floral design studio — Floral by Bri. We we were on our way to Dallas for a gig when we got a text that Leon Bridges would be performing at one of the events that we were doing flowers for. So I would have to say the Coming Home album by Leon. Been a fan for a long time and seeing him live was awesome.
Who/what inspires you?
Music is the most inspiring thing for me. Though I don’t play music, I do find a lot of inspiration in what I’m listening to.
How/when were you first introduced into vintage?
My mom and grandparents were always dumpster diving. But it was my older brother who got me onto going out to find old used clothes. I looked up to him a lot. He was always deep into the music seen and had a Kurt Cobain vibe growing up so whatever he was on I kind of mimicked that.
Hobbies? Things you want to do?
Shoot film. I’m coming up on a year of sobriety. I put down drinking and picked up shooting photography. I don’t paint or sketch and I feel like it’s kind of my way of capturing the things around me. Whether it’s people or places. I feel like I’m always people watching and looking for a moment.
What’s exciting you right now?
There’s a lot of planned trips in the coming months to go picking and visit other vintage shops in far away towns, but really the most exciting thing at the moment is some friends and I took ownership of a little brick and mortar vintage shop called Gas and Grain.
We’re in the midst of rebranding & vision casting for some cool projects coming this year.
Favorite piece of vintage you own?
That would have to be my 40’s USN N-1 Deck Jacket. Literally looks good with everything. I wish I had a great story about finding it in a barn or some old machine shop but I found it here in town in an antique mall for $100.
